About Red & Black Brigade
Founded in 1956, the Hillcrest High School band program has grown from a small member band to a large member band, which comprises of Winds, Percussion, and Color Guard ensembles that perform for a combined audience at Varsity Football games, Multi-state 6A Competitions, and Community Events.
For the last 29 years, Red & Black Brigade at the Hillcrest High School - Simpsonville, SC has been under the direction of Mr. Thom Freeland. Mr. Freeland has shared his passion for promoting and developing students' understanding of music fundamentals as well as love for music for the last 39 years as a teacher in Greenville County. Mr. Freeland proudly collaborates with co-directors Mr. Christian Scott, Mr. Jason Ray, and Mrs. Alexandria Cherry. Together these leaders inspire and influence members of the Red and Black Brigade to exhibit grit, kindness, compassion, and respect for each other as well as upholding Hillcrest High School's' Truth, Honor, and Loyalty values.
With spirit we invite all students regardless of music performances, to participate in our Marching Band. Auditions to join the Red & Black Brigade are scheduled at the end of the school year in May. We encourage you to explore the RAM traditions of our Marching Band program.
