How much commitment does Marching Band require?
The HHS Marching Band is a huge commitment as it requires extensive amount of practice hours during the week as well as weekends. All Marching Band members participate in a three (3) week local Marching Band Camp before school starts. Once school starts, Marching Band practices are held after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00pm - 6:30pm. The Marching Band performs at all HHS Varsity Football Home Games throughout the fall football season. Additionally, the Marching Band attends up to seven (7) competitive competitions throughout the fall season. These competitions are held on Saturdays and require weekend commitment and attendance. The Marching Band also participate in the Simpsonville Christmas Parade. As a Marching Band member, you are a highly valued member of our team. Your commitment and dedication is essential the success and fun of the Red and Black Brigade.
Can 7th & 8th graders participate in Marching Band?
Yes. We would love for you to join us with the recommendation of your middle school director.
Can I audition for Hillcrest High School Marching Band if I don't physically attend Hillcrest High School?
Yes. Homeschool, virtual, and charter students zoned for Hillcrest High School are welcomed to audition.
Do we have to rent or purchase instruments?
Marching Band instruments may be loaned by completing and submitting the Instrument Check Out Form. Please contact Band Directors if you are interested in purchasing your own instrument.
How much does it cost and how can I pay dues?
$300 is the fee for Marching Band. Fee is due at the beginning of Summer Band Camp each season. Payment Plans and Scholarships may be available, if needed. Please reach out to the Band Boosters via email for further details.
Dues can be paid via check, cash, and/or Square.
Is transportation provided to away events?
Yes. Greenville County School District provides school bus or activity bus transportation for all away competitions.
Are Freshmen Band students required to join Marching Band?
Yes. Unless they participate in a fall school-sponsored sport.
